Looking for some family activities for fall? Here are ten free or frugal activities your family will love. It’s starting to really feel like fall.

The leaves are falling, the air is cool and crisp, and the outdoors are filled with so many wonderful colors. My two daughters and I actually made our first leaf pile yesterday, will be picking pumpkins from my mom’s pumpkin patch today, and going on a hay ride this weekend.

I love the start of each new season.

Fall, however, happens to be one of the most fun because there is just so much to do. If you’re looking for some cheap family activities for fall here are ten of my favorite.

# 1 – Making Leaf Piles

Yes, making leaf piles! Some of my best childhood memories are making gigantic leaf piles with my brothers. We were constantly raking, jumping, and re-raking.

If you have younger kids I just don’t think there’s anything you can do that is more fun and free.

# 2 – Pumpkin Picking

My mom grew a huge pumpkin patch this year and we now have the pleasure of going over and picking some free pumpkins. (Although we need help because each pumpkin is around 100 pounds!)

If you grow a garden consider planting a little pumpkin patch next year so you can enjoy all the wonderful pumpkins come the fall season.

# 3 – Pumpkin Carving

Once you pick the pumpkins, carve them or paint them.

# 4 – Make a Collage

Another activity I loved doing as a little girl was making collages. Go one a walk with your kids and pick up leafs, acorns, pinecones, and whatever else you can find. Then grab a piece of cardboard and make a fall collage.

# 5 – Take A Walk in the Woods

Free, easy, and entertaining – take a walk in the woods.

# 6 – Go to A Corn Maze

This weekend my daughters and I are going to a place that offers hay rides, corn mazes, and kid train rides and more. The cost of admission is $6 per person!

We went last year with my mom, brother, and nephew and had such an amazing time. We spent hours there. If there’s a place like this near you, go. You definitely won’t regret it.

# 7 – Make a Pinecone Bird Feeder

The past few years my daughter’s babysitter has made pinecone bird feeders with the girls. They are always so excited to bring these home.

All that is needed is large pinecones, peanut butter, and bird seed. If you have young kids they will really enjoy hanging up their own bird feeders.

# 8 – Watch Scary Movies

If you have older children or just want to put together a date night for you and your spouse then consider watching a scary movie in honor of Halloween.

Horror movies are actually my favorite and are watched year round.

# 9 – Make S’mores Over a Campfire

Mmmmm, s’mores. So good.

Get some s’mores supplies and build a little campfire for your family to gather around. Tell ghost stories and make s’mores. Your kids will love it.

# 10 – Bake Cookies

With the change of every season my daughters and I make a massive amount of cookies to decorate and give to my Mom, Dad, and brothers.

I’m not sure if they get more joy out of the actual decorating process or the giving process. All I know is that this is one tradition we will always keep.

What are your favorite cheap family activities for fall?
