Making money from home is such an awesome feeling. It’s great to be able to contribute to your family’s financial situation from the comfort of your home. And it’s also great that there are online jobs that will fit just about every single personality.
If you’re looking to make some extra cash here are five ways to make an extra $500 per month from home!
It's important to note that you're probaby not going to hit all $500 with just one of these ideas. The goal is to compound your income - do multiple things to hit your goal. You may make $100 with the first one, nothing on the second, then $400 with the fifth.
The bottom line is to go out and start trying things so you can earn more money!
1. Do Online Surveys
Believe it or not, companies want to pay you for your input. Major companies and brands need to know what people are thinking. They work with companies like Neilson (who do ratings for TV shows and other products) and contract with online companies to get people's opinions.
Anyone can sign up, and simply sharing your ideas and filling out surveys can earn you cash and other rewards.
Some of the most popular online survey sites include:
- Swagbucks - Fill out online surveys and do tasks to earn rewards. You can likely earn up to $15 per month. Get a $5 bonus to sign up! Sign up here >>
- Survey Junkie - Survey Junkie tends to offer higher payouts on surveys, but you may not get as many. Sign up here >>
- InboxDollars - Fill our surveys and do tasks, but also scan receipts and more. You can get a $5 bonus when you sign up. Sign up here >>
- Pinecone 18-24 - If you're 18-24, you can earn $3 per survey with Pinecone. These are high paying, but limited. Sign up here >>
- MyPoints - Another survey site. You can automatically earn $5 when you fill out 5 surveys. Sign up here >>
- Nielson - Earn up to $50 in giftcards and a chance to win $10,000 per month! Sign up here >>
2. Sell Crafts on Etsy
I just put in my first Etsy order last month and I am in love. I also spent way, way more money than I normally would for two reasons. First, I loved the product and couldn’t find it anywhere else and second, I wanted to support fellow entrepreneurs.
If you’re crafty whether that be making actual physical products like picture frames, candles or soap or are very good at making digital prints, Etsy could be quite profitable.
(I paid $42 for three digital print photos! Besides the ink and three pieces of paper that’s all pure profit for the seller!)
My sister-in-law is a pro at Etsy and she makes and sells greeting cards and wedding invitations. She simply prints and makes them while watching TV, and earns $100s per month!
3. Test Websites
Like it sounds, website testers test the “usability” of websites. As a website tester you look at the overall layout of a website, critique it, and make a video of it. You can get paid around $10 per website tested which generally takes around 20 minutes.
The work might not be extremely consistent but the good news is you only have to review 50 websites to earn that extra $500 per month from home. That’s not a bad deal!

4. Write Articles
The pay you can earn from writing articles varies greatly. You can earn anywhere from $5-$500 for a 500 word article.
If you start at out working for a content mill, like TextBroker for example, you’re only go to make $5-$10 per article. If you go out and find your own clients you can start out in the $20-$30 range or more, depending on your skills.
If you decided to freelance and find your own clients you’d only have to write 17 articles a month to earn $500 at a rate of $30 per article.

5. Babysit
Babysitting is one of those tried, true, and will always be around ways to make money from home. If you babysat one kid at $10 an hour you’d only need to work 50 hours per month for the $500. Get a second kid to watch and you’ve cut your time in half.
This is a good solution for someone who likes kids and has no interest in working online.
If you don't have a network of moms or dads nearby, you can also sign up for a site like Care.com and post a listing that you're looking for babysitting work.
Bonus: Become a Search Engine Evaluator
Search engine evaluators are hired by search engines like Google to verify the accuracy of certain search engine results. These jobs typically pay around $10-$12 per hour which would mean you’d need to work 50 hours per month to earn the extra $500.
You can sign up for search engine evaluator jobs through places like LeapForce.

Here’s a great article about how to get started freelance writing and finding clients: http://thecollegeinvestor.com/16547/cant-find-a-job-this-summer-start-a-freelance-writing-business-instead/
I have always loved to write for as long as I can remember. I graduated from Louisiana Tech University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education, majoring in English with a Psychology minor. I can remember as a young adolescent winning writing contest sponsored by our hometown newspaper. I would love to be able to make money through creative writing.
Just a comment on selling on Etsy in regard to the digital prints. I am sure the seller had more costs than just the paper and ink. There are overhead costs, for instance. Cost of equipment, electricity, and other utilities not to mention labor. So it’s not just the cost of the ink and paper. A lot of people do not realize the total costs involved in selling crafts of any kind.
